I love this tweak! Its hard to believe Windows would have a feature so useful that Apple has yet to implement. This does exactly what you are used to in the newer versions of Windows. It makes quick work out of sizing up two windows side-by-side on your desktop. Dont let the line about using Spaces scare you off - it works fine on my old 13" plastic Snow Leopard Macbook. If you hold the window to the right border of the screen momentarily it will take that window over to a new Space. If you simply pull the window to the right and let go it quickly it magically autosizes the window to 1/2 the screen. Ive written far too many college papers before I discovered this app. It seems expensive for what it does, but what it does it does well. Thanks, developers.
For $7 it feels like they could have put in more effort to make it more customizable in terms of gestures and resizing at different types. Definitely doesn’t satisfy all needs, and 9 times out of 10 I find myself recommending Divvy over this for that reason.
Working with Mavricks…finally an easy way to manage windows side by side….good stuff Maynard
App works great and does everything as advertised. Had the trial untill I got tired of clicking the continue demo. Only wish it was cheaper. Great App!!!!!
I bought this app because I miss the “window snapping” feature from Windows 7. Unfortunately, Cinch only works on occasion. On Google Chrome, for example, I’ll have to bump the window into the side of the screen multiple times, and the window may resize after the 3rd or 4th attempt. Even when it does resize, it takes about a second of holding the window to the edge for the resizing to take hold (not at all like the instant repsonse I’m used to on my work computer with Win 7). I want this app to work, but it’s just really flakey right now.
Should’ve been included by Apple. I use this all the time.
The developer sent me an almost immediate response to fix my botched install, on a weekend no less. Not to mention, Cinch is very close to must-have if you’re accustomed to snapping windows to the screen on Windows. A tiny application that does exactly what it’s supposed to do.
While I really enjoy using Cinch, as it it wonderful and non-intrusive, I just noticed a competing app on the front page that claims to support dragging to corners. Is there any hope in the future for more flexibly, as it would be really nice to be able to resize a window to a 1/4 of the screen.
I use a large monitor and find this app works beautifully for a quick simple reliable way to resize application windows side by side. I find this app so handy in everyday use that I purchased it to say thank you to the developers. Well done!
I absolutely love how easy it is to use. Some apps aren’t intuitive (read: a PITA to use)—not Cinch. Bottom Line: BUY IT NOW!
Cinch does what it says it will do with no fuss. I use it constantly on Yosemite with a 24” LG, and don’t even think it is not part of the OS (which it should be!). Work on the left; movie on the right. ;-) Requires Accessibility. I work a lot on iOS, so it seem a little pricey at $7; but, for some reasons, Mac apps are all expensive.
This was great coming from Windows 7 to Mac OS. Really missed this feature and Cinch gave it to me. MartyF81 - Really uncool to rate this 1 star just b/c you dont like the icon. Grow up.
This app definitly dosent work as well as Windos 7 does in OSX Yosimite. I am an avis Mac lover but even with this app it’s not as fulid ans W7. Also, I’ve found there are quite a few applications that do NOT snap to the half screen guidelines such as iTunes, Calendar and Microsoft Word. I would defintly not re purchase.
Soory, for any inconvence it was. As we used to say OE (Operator Error). They showed me how to use Cinch. The last post was very very wrong. If you are running Cinch in Yosemite DON’T. I have been using Cinch for years and never had a problem with it. It might be Cinch and not Yosemite. Don’t know yet emailed custumer support and no response yet. The new verison is Junk if you ask me.
After getting used to using this feature in Ubuntu for 9 months, I kept trying to drag my windows to maximize them on my new mac air. This filled that gap perfectly. There are a few apps that don’t seem to want to play nice (steam comes to mind), but 99% of the time it works perfectly.
I just swtiched from a pc to a mac this month (December 2014) and the ONE THING I was SOOOOO hating was there was no window snap! You have just made me 100% happier knowing that I made good choice in switching from pc to mac. The app was easy to install and it works just fine on every program/window I opened except Photoshop and Lightroom. But there really is no reason to use it on those programs I just wanted to see if it would work on those programs. As far as Cinch working on Safari, iTunes, App Store, Mail, iPhoto, Calendar, Maps, Pages, Numbers, Calculator, Contacts, Notes it worked PERFECTLY!!!!!!! If you have just switched from a pc to mac make sure to BUY this APP FIRST! That is IF Apple ever decides to add that feature into their operating systems. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!
Very useful application! I absoleutly love this application! I highly reccomend it to anyone! It will increase your producuvity for sure! My only suggestion is to make it athestically more pleasing and lose the dashed lines when you snap it to a side.
This app implements a feature that ought to be built-in anyway, as it is in Windows. Window snapping is extremely convenient when working, say with numerical data in Excel while writing a report on that data in word, or editing HTML next to a browser window. I would really love to see, though, an option in Cinch’s preferences to divide the screen up four ways if so desired by the user.
I like this app until I found for $1.99 on top chart BetterSnapTool which is cheaper and has much more features. Cinch only has right and left, better snap tool is completely customizable depending on app etc but also offer the simple mode.
